Book Review- The Elite

I just finished reading The Elite (The Selection #2) by Kiera Cass for an Around the World ARC Tour.

From Goodreads:

In America Singer’s world, a bride is chosen for the prince through an elaborate televised competition. In the second book of the Selection series, America is one of only six girls left in the running. But is it Prince Maxon—and life as the queen—she wants? Or is it Aspen, her first love?

The Selection was my favorite read of last year.  Yes, it reminded me of The Bachelor and I loved every bit of it.  I couldn't wait to get my hands on The Elite!

And while I still flew through The Elite (reading it in less than 24 hours..it's been a while since I did that!), I didn't find it as good as The Selection.  The love triangle between America and Aspen and Maxon got old after a while.  Oh she's so in love with Maxon when she's with him.  Then it's always been Aspen when she's with him.  I get the hard decision, but it was a little too much.  Did that stop me from loving the book and dying to know who she was going to pick?  Nope!  I still tore through the book trying to figure out which boy she would end up with.

Although neither boy really did it for me this time.  Some of Maxon's actions made me like him even more, some of his actions made me question his feelings for America.  Oh, it so is like The Bachelor!  And Aspen--still don't really see what America sees in him except that he's always there for her.

And oh the drama!  Drama with the girls, drama with the king, drama all around.  Love it!  It's so easy to fall into this series and I so want to know what is going to happen and who America is going to choose!

And there's an e-novella called The Prince told from Maxon's point of view coming out on March 5?  Just pre-ordered it!

I gave this book a rating of 4/5.

The Elite will be released on April 23, 2013.

  1. I haven't read The Selection yet, as it seems like readers either love or hate it. It's good to know that the first book is a bit better than the second, and to be aware that the love triangle gets a bit annoying (as they tend to do these days). Still, it sounds like I'd be sucked in by the drama (for example, I got totally stuck on the Private series which was basically all drama). Thanks for the review :)
