Teaser Tuesday - September 8, 2009

TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:
Grab your current read.
Let the book fall open to a random page.
Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
Please avoid spoilers!

My two teasers:

"Buzzing fluorescent fixtures hung askew from chains and silver foil ductwork crisscrossed overhead. The air reeked of paint, adhesives, and the chalky odor of the plasterboard."

Book Review- Highland Rebel

I finished reading Highland Rebel: A Tale of a Rebellious Lady and a Traitorous Lord by Judith James on the plane on the way to Chicago this weekend.

From the back cover:

His wit and intoxicating good looks have served him well...

Jamie Sinclair abanonded and despised at an early age, learned quickly to fend for himself. Now he looks forward to finishing one last mission for his king and finally collecting his reward...

Raised to rule her clan, she'll stop at nothing to protect her own.

Daughter of a Highland laird, heiress to a title, a forutne, and vast properties, Catherine Drummond rides fearlessly into battle against the English forces sent to quell the Scots' rebellion...

When Catherine falls into the hands of vicious mercenaries, Jamie impulsively marries her on the spot to save her from a grim fate. But in a world where princes cannot be trusted and faith fuels intolerance, hatred, and war, no good deed goes unpunished.

When I agreed to review this book, I guess I didn't realize it was a historical romance novel. This is not the type of book that I normally read. But I found myself enjoying it.

I like the characters of Jamie and Catherine. I thought they played well off of each other. I liked that their relationship was so feisty.

I wasn't big on the historical part though. I found myself spacing out when reading some of that part. That's just me though. If historical romance is your thing, then I think this book would be right up your alley.

Thank you to Danielle from Sourcebooks for the review copy.

I gave this book a rating of 3/5.

The Sunday Salon- September 6, 2009

This week has been crazy. School is still really hectic. My 29th birthday was on Tuesday. I hate my birthday and this year was no different. Right now I am on vacation in Chicago for a girl's weekend! This is a scheduled post, so I'll talk more about the trip next week!

I finished and reviewed the following books this week:

I didn't fulfill any items for challenges this week.

Hopefully I will read more on the plane on the way to Chicago, but as of Thursday night, I am currently reading Highland Rebel for a book review and up next is A Note From An Old Acquaintance by Bill Walker for a blog tour.

All Unquiet Things
by Anna Jarzab
Publication Release Date: January 12, 2010

From Amazon.com:

Carly: She was sweet. Smart. Self-destructive. She knew the secrets of Brighton Day School’s most privileged students. Secrets that got her killed.

Neily: Dumped by Carly for a notorious bad boy, Neily didn’t answer the phone call she made before she died. If he had, maybe he could have helped her. Now he can’t get the image of her lifeless body out of his mind.

Audrey: She’s the reason Carly got tangled up with Brighton’s fast crowd in the first place, and now she regrets it—especially since she’s convinced the police have put the wrong person in jail. Audrey thinks the murderer is someone at Brighton, and she wants Neily to help her find out who it is.

As reluctant allies Neily and Audrey dig into their shared past with Carly, her involvement with Brighton’s dark goings-on comes to light. But figuring out how Carly and her killer fit into the twisted drama will force Audrey and Neily to face hard truths about themselves and the girl they couldn’t save.
