Book Review- Personal Demons

I just finished reading Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers for an Around the World Tour.

From Goodreads:

Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a bit of a wicked streak. She's spent years keeping everyone at a distance—even her closest friends—and it seems her senior year will be more of the same...until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can't seem to stay away from him. What she doesn't know is that Luc works in Acquisitions—for Hell—and she possesses a unique skill set that has the King of Hell tingling with anticipation. All Luc has to do is get her to sin, and he’s as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn’t stand a chance.

Unfortunately for Luc, Heaven has other plans, and the angel, Gabe, is going to do whatever it takes to make sure that Luc doesn’t get what he came for. And it isn't long before they find themselves fighting for more than just her soul.

But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay…for all of them.

So I can't really decide how I feel about this book.  Sometimes I liked it, sometimes I found it annoying.  And it kept going back and forth like that throughout the whole book.

The part I didn't like was the whole love triangle thing.  Normally I seem to enjoy them.  But for some reason, this one got on my nerves.  Frannie said several times that she didn't believe in love.  But then suddenly she was in love with Luc.  And then Gabe.  And then Luc again.  But what about Gabe?  It just seemed to get a little old to me.

But I loved the characters, especially Luc.  Such a bad boy with a good side--who doesn't want one of those?  And I liked that Frannie seemed to stay true to herself.  She was fiesty!

I really liked the ending.  There was a nice little surprise there.  Well, I guess there was two, but I figured out the one that had to do with Luc.  But the other one took me by surprise and I really liked it.

I didn't realize until just know when I was writing up this review that the book is the first in a trilogy and I look forward to reading the next one, Original Sin.

I gave this book a rating of 3.5/5.

Personal Demons will be released on September 14, 2010

  1. I hate love triangles that do that! I like love triangles where the main point of the triangle basically knows which one they want, but the other one is constantly trying to pull her towards them. You know?
