How about, “What’s the worst ‘best’ book you’ve ever read — the one everyone says is so great, but you can’t figure out why?”
Mine would definitely be Wuthering Heights. I was so excited to read it, but for some reason, I just couldn't get into it. I found it so boring! And since then, I have been scared to read other classics like Pride and Prejudice because I want to like them so much but don't want to be disappointed.
Well, Pride and Prejudice is nothing like Wuthering Heights, so I think you'd be safe in giving it a try. It has humor and romance and interesting characters, and a much more satisfying ending. Of course, they both take a bit more work than current books, but they're really worth it.
ReplyDeleteI think the best thing to do is go into the books with no expectations and not reading the good reviews for it, since it might make you disappointed when you finally get to them. I haven't read Pride and Prejudice, but the movie was lovely, so hopefully you'll end up liking the book.

I know exactly what you mean. Not about Wuthering Heights or any Jane Austen, because I've read neither, but about being excited about a "best book" and a classic and then reading it, realizing that YAAAWN, was that it???!!!
